What USB Type?

How can I tell if my PC supports USB 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0?

Also, is it possible to always be able to run a device which supports USB 2.0 through a USB 1.1 port?

Kindest regards

The easiest way to know for sure is to check your manual - if you don't have one, get something like Aida32 click here#
which will also tell you.

A USB 2 device may work with USB1 but it will depend on the particular item. Some require the higher speeds to work and hence USB1 will not be fast enough.

Generally speaking, in real world usage, there is little difference I think.

your operating system spec will tell.Check out your device manager via my computer. Look for USB serial controllers.

USB 2.0 standard. Also fully backward compatible with USB 1.1 providing near-universal connectivity with Mac® and PC

What does ‘backward compatible’ mean?
This means you can upgrade your computer to this next generation USB technology, yet still use today’s current USB 1.1
devices until you upgrade the device.

usb2 devices will work via a usb1 port ok albeit at the slower speed.

if your computer is new, chances are it uses usb2.if its an older computer more than likely usb1 but you can always add a pci card to upgrade to usb2.
