What is a router

  GBL 09:34 21 Oct 2007

Having just bought a new computer with Vista installed, I cannot load the driver for the modem supplied by Virgin Media, they say that it will not install on vista and that i need a Router. What is the difference and presumably it will solve the problem.

thanks, but a pity they don't write it in basic English so that I can understand what they are on about.

A Vista compatible modem would do. What is the modem you have? There may be Vista drivers for it on the maker's website.

you'll need a cable router not an ADSL router.

I recently took advice following a PC Advisor question regarding de fragging and down loaded a programme that defragged very quickly.
It is good and it works.see below
Can any one recommend a similar prog that will speed up the 'Error checking' process
Thank you

To Gel, what has this got to do with MY question???

It is my daughters machine and I think the modem is Speed Touch, I will ring her in a while to find out exactly.

My click here is the Vista update.
