I'm trying to speed up a laptop - which has little ram - so Ive downloaded a programme called autoruns were you can stop programmes from loading in reboot to speed up the reboot process.

can I stop antivirus etc from starting up on reboot? also programmes like skype. Can I stop Skype in reboot, and still receive phone calls etc, in other words, do programmes still work in the background if you don't have them programme running in reboot?

Oh, any-tips what programes to stop running in boot up.

Thanks

You could stop all the items in the Start up tab in the msconfig utility and the machine will still boot.

So yes you can stop what you want and they will then be started as and when you try to use them.
