There are some good boards around at the moment. You have nice specs there. How much have you to spend? Nice one here, but pricey click here

an asus ip35 motherboard and I would get an enermax infinity 650 psu.

i broke a motherboard on a pc. i temporarily replaced it with a cheap foxconn £27 motherboard to see if everything else was ok, which it was. i replaced it with a top spec asus and there is absolutley no difference in performance for my set up! i dont really know too much about motherboards and dont use sli. but 3d benchmark etc all give identical readings if tuned by n tune. So next time im sticking with a cheap one.
amd 6000x2
2gb 6400
8800 gtx
xp pro

You can buy a cheap mobo and sometimes get a real result. However, with the better specs you can over clock with them and also you normally find the temperatures are a lot lower.

thanks for that i did wonder! i must have got lucky i guess. the cpu is/was slightly overclocked and the temps (for motherboard) are in the late 30c area on both boards. the connectors also seemed sturdier on the cheap board.

on a good board e6700 will overclock to the same as a cpu costing much more, ip35 is also penryn ready for future upgrades.

Not really into overclocking at the moment, So a board at around £100 would be OK.

I have decided to get an Intel core 2 duo E6850 processor, Gigabyte GA P35c-DS3R Motherboard, Corsair 2x1Gb xms6400 DDR2 memory, Hiper 580 Watt psu, BFG GE-Force 8600 GTS Graphics Card, Samsung sata2 320GB HD, Samsung 18xDVD RW, Jeantech Aqua case, And a floppy drive, I also want to install Vista premium on this setup would an OEM version be OK As it is a lot cheaper,

My new PC is based around an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850, And Gigabyte P35C-DS3R IP35 Express Motherboard, That has just irrived, My preferred OS is Vista home premium 32 bit, Do you see any problems that may arise with the installation, Of Sata 2 drive etc, And can you recommend a nice looking case for around £60, with fans, and or removable mother board tray.
