What is the most suitable size memory?

  pcbobby 10:05 24 Nov 2005

My PC is a Gateway, Pentium 3. 500Mhz OS.98SE
The current memory size is 128 MB
Without removing the card, I cannot not see the manufacturer’s name.
From one of the chips I managed to note the following details.
TG –10P
These maybe not be relevant, but I mention just incase.

I use the machine for emails and surfing. I have lots of software Firewalls etc, but no games.

What would members recommend to be the most suitable size of memory to insert?
Also, what technicalities are involved in the upgrade?

Thank you.

512Mb when running Win98SE

Ditch the 128 stick adn replace with one from Crucial.

Use the Crucial System Scanner to find out what you need.

I would have thought 256Mb would be fine for what you are doing. A second 128Mb module will do that for you, and be a lot cheaper.

With a system of this age, you need to be careful what RAM you get - Crucial do offer a guarantee to exchange in the case of non-compatability.

To fully identify all your bits, run Everest click here I would think your RAM is Hyundai - but Everest will tell all.

Especially with a small hard drive, your computer will benefit from as much RAM as you can fit. For emailing and surfing you probably won't notice much improvement, but if you manipulate picture files the difference will be dramatic. This site is good for estimating how much memory you need click here

I will check these sites.

When I obtain the card. Is it just a question of removing the 128MB card, and inserting the upgrade. By that I mean, do I have to enter DOS etc?
