I have been looking to get a new G card and have seen thsee two both £99.99 from a local shop:

128MB GeForce 6600GT 8x AGP
512MB ATI Radeon X1600 pro 8x AGP

What would be the best card for game playing out of these two or would there be something better at around the same price range.

What versions of these cards are the ones you post. There are many versions of the 6600GT so we cant really compare unless we know what we are comparing.

Have a look at click here and go through some of the benchmarks, looks like the 6600GT has the edge.

Im not sure on version types of both cards, how do you know what version type they are?

Mr Mistoffelees, thx for the link it does seem like the Geforce is the better card, but i dont know about the game they tested it with lol.

If you look at the drop down list you will see that there are figures for a range of different games.

I would use the "GeForce" (nVidia) card, as ATI cards intend to have problems with a few games lately

I personally brought a "nVidia GeForce Series 6 6600 256MB" gfx card for £120 from PC World a few months ago now. I tried a ATI card before hand (around the same spec, but only £40) and it wouldn't play ANY game I have for longer than 3 minutes.

Ok thx guys i think i will opt for the GF6600,i have a FX5900 now and that has been a good card to me so i like Nvidea anyway.

Thx all.
