What does C:\$Extend\$ObjId mean????

I turned on my computer and it said that it needed to check the hard drive (Chkdsk).
After ages it suddenly came up with deleting some file, then inserting something else. It got to 55% and then didn't change for ages.
So I turned off the laptop and chose not to do Chkdsk.
The laptop started up fine, except that a bubble popped up on the desktop saying "The file or directory C:\$Extend\$ObjId is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility".

Am I going to lose my hard drive?

What do I do?

Hi, it might mean that your pc has been hijacked (though I hope not). Unfortunately I am not techie enough to be able to help you properly, but this link will give you some idea.

also I have found that by posting a response to a thread that has not had any responses so far, more responses will be attracted from the more techie guys here.

Good luck.
