Hi,

My laptop has a built in 802.11b wifi card, and my phone socket is too far away to plug the laptop into, so I want to beam the broadband signal to it.

I don't have any other PCs to joing a router transmitter to, I just need to plug the modem directly ibnto the phone line, and beam it to my laptop.

what do I need for this and what is the cheapest good one?

Is this useful? Or does it have to be plugged into another PC?

A wireless router will be fine...

You will need:-

Broadband filter on each phoneline.
Wireless router or modem (advantage of router is its easy to plumb extra pcs in, and most contain built in firewall)
Wireless adapter (your laptop has one)

These are nice, easy ones to use click here also include free wireless adapter which would allow you to access wireless g on your laptop or add another pc. Or if you don't need it - sell...
about £90. Includes modem, 4 port router, wireless router and firewall all in one handy unit, includes one broad band filter.
