If you have room, the sensible think would be to buy a desktop. As these are easy to repair if things go wrong, a lot less expensive and with help you can do it your self.
With that budget you'll find that, in general, the picture quality on a 'big pc thingy' is very similar to that on a little laptop thingy.So, I think your decision is whether you want the portability of a little laptop thingy or a big pc thingy which will stay in one place.

the big pc thingy option is upgradable i would probably go for click here with click here as others have said laptops are usually return to base if any problems arise.

Main in fact, only problem, I have had with the two laptops which I have had also with daughter's laptop is having to renew main battery in the case of the Medion once after 9 months again after 1.5 years.
