Western Hard Drive not recognising

  Newuser2555 08:41 29 Apr 2003

I have just putchased WD EIDE 80gb @ 7200 rpm and want to use it as a second hard drive. I followed instruction and set jumpers to 3 & 4
and when I turn the system on it locks at first screenjust showing "TINY"(purchased from them). If I remove the cable to the WD everything works OK
I current system is Micro Star Mother Board (MS-6178) 25 .45 GB Fujitsu hard drive, intel processor and Windows 98SE.
Can someone help or should I just have one drive rather than two if they are not compatable

Is the other drive set to master? If you are using an 80 wire cable then the Master drive must be on the end of the cable and the slave in the middle.

click here have software to help install new drives.

Confirm that the black end is to the original hard drive and grey connector is in the middle attached to new hard drive, I am now getting message saying that when testing wd system it cannot open SMARTVSD.VXD
I understand that this read my hard drive and is it likely to be on my boot up disc or if not how can I rectify ?

The WD Caviar likes to be set using the 'Cable Select' option, not Master/slave.
