website security certificate

when try clicking on to some websites (some I have used for years -e.g. one of them has bank account details) I am denied access with a message appearing on screen;-
X There is a problem with this websites security certificate.

Seurity certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

WE RECOMMEND YOU CLOSE THIS WEBPAGE AND DO CONTINUE TO THIS WEBSITE.

Yes, the people who run the website.

Contact their webmaster and explain the problem to them. Only they can update their security certificate.

If you're using IE7, the certificate is either out of date or doesn't belong to the holder.

If it's a bank, ask them if they can use digital keys instead, that way they can send you a key to use on the web site instead of the digital certificate.

You always have the option to close the warning and proceed to the website, it is just a warning, normally picked up by the phishing filter.
