Website "links" for newbie

I am thinking of starting a Website,

What is the position, about putting a "link" to an outside website ??? (copyright, things, or is that If I put "an actual page on my site"??

You do not need anyone's permission to link to their website if you so wish. Otherwise the staff at sites such as Wikipedia, Dmoz, etc. would collapse under the paperwork. Do not appropriate images, graphics or text from any website.

as ade.h says, but always link to the homepage, not to one of the internal pages.

Link to as many sites as you like in this way, but be sure to keep external links relevant to your subject matter. You should also ensure that somewhere near the hyperlinks you have a disclaimer: "We accept no liability in respect of the content of external sites."

Make sure you test your links regularly, to make sure none of them have gone 'dead'.
