Webcam Bluescreen Failure

I have been trying to install a new Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 webcam to my new Dell PC.

Everytime it has finished installing, when i re-start my pc, a blue screen comes up saying the computer is closing down to save it from a major failure!!

I have tried downloading the driver direct from Logitech (instead of using the disc), but the result is the same.

Did you install the software first, prior to connecting the camera to the PC. waiting first for the prompt to connect the camera?.

If so I would suggest returning for a replacement as it may be faulty.

Yes! Tried installing before connecting. Waited for prompt.
Apparently, the Logitech webcam has a bit of a history with BSOD (Bluescreen Fault) problems.
Sometimes the drivers work, sometimes they dont...

What would be the best choice for an alternative webcam?
