Web pages won't quite open fully

XP SP2
Broadband via ethernet cable
Firefox 2 (IE6 also affected)

This has been steadily getting worse for a while. Some (but not all) pages start to open, the progress bar gets to about 85%(ish) and then hangs. The page will have started to open but before all the info gets on the page it just seems to get stuck. The litlle spinny dots logo in the top right hand corner still spins so the screen hasn't frozen. Some pages/sites are worse than others. In particular Ebay and PCA are very bad. Some sites don't seem to be affected at all. BTW this page hasn't fully opened yet though i have been typing on it for about 5 minutes.

Update. Various speed tests show no line problems. I've just dowloaded a 12mb piece of software in about 15-20 secs.

Are you using a firewall?

Try updating or reinstalling Java(Control Panel). I think this site runs scripts - would of thought e-bay does as well.
It could be this.
