w98 se freezes

The computer freezes after startup when you click on anything,it works in'safe mode' so it can't be the hard drive or overheating.We have done; SFC., scandisk (thorough) and defrag. to no avail???????????

Go back into safe mode...

Goto > Start > Settings > control Psnel > Device Manager > Any exclamation marks etc?

Have you installed any new programs, updates even hardware?

Then...

Start > Run > Type: MSCONFIG > Click "ok" > Start > Disable everything apart from "Explorer" and "Systray" > Reboot > This (fingers crossed) will allow you back into Windows...

Go back MSCONFIG (do this within normal windows)enable 1 item at a time and reboot. If it hangs then then the program is cauing the problem.

If you do not need the program keep it disabled.
