W98 & a Flash Drive

  David4637 16:46 02 Jan 2008

My 1GB USB flash drive, given to me by a friend, is recognised by my old PC W98SE, but windows says it needs a driver for it. Please advise how I should find a driver as its useful to use this flash drive. Thanks David

What make is the drive?

Use their website to find the Win98 driver

Thanks alan, but it has not got a manufacturers name on it - is there a general W98 driver that may work? Thanks David

Thanks alan but my flash drive has a pivoted guard which rotates across the plug end. There is not a similar picture on the link you gave, good suggestion though, any other ideas. As I have said there is not a manufacturers name printed on it, I think it was a give away at a conference/meeting. Thanks David

Try this site, you can get generic drivers here that will work for most USB flash drives and digital cameras

I had a similar problem using a flash drive with Windows 98SE. Finally sorted by going to the Kingston website and downloaded a 'Mass Storage Device' generic driver. This worked!!Hope this helps you.

Thanks for your replies, one query, the link quoted the download for USB2.2, how do I know whether my USB is v1 or v2 on my W98SE PC? Thanks again for your help, which looks promising. David

Should have said the down load is for USB V2 not USB V2.2 above. David
