Volume muting itself

This problem has been happening a while, but as it's nothing major, I decided not to worry about it.

However, now, it's begiinning to annoy me somewhat!

At random, the volume mutes itself for no apparant reason. It's always on the wave fader in the volume mixer (fader is at it's lowest point)and is easily rectified by clicking on the speaker icon and moving the fader back, but I'm just wondering what could be causing this?

Upgrade drivers perhaps? click here
Everest will id your sound components.

I've used Everest before, good idea.

It's only on board sound though and the mobo is only a week old. Surely drivers wouldn't already need upgrading?

The age of the mobo means nothing in itself! The drivers may not have been the most uptodate when installed.

Give the system file checker a run:

start

run

sfc /scannow

Ran file checker.

Any other ideas for this random problem?

Do you have latest available drivers?

Yup, checked all that.
