Volume icon deleted from taskbar

I've gone and deleted the volume icon from the taskbar somehow.

I tried to get it back on by going to sounds and media in control panel, I then ticked the box to put it back on the taskbar but get the following message: Window cannot display the volume icon on the taskbar because the volume control programme has not been installed. To install it use add/remove in control panel.

I looked in the add/remove programmes list on the control panel and there is nothing about volume in there.

Any ideas? Ive gone and deleted something haven't I !!!!!!!
