Volume control not working properly,

  wolfie3000 19:28 17 Oct 2007

Just a minor irritation for me but the volume control on my media center remote and on my keyboard doesn't work properly,

Its defiantly a software problem as it affects both keyboard and remote,

It seems to reduce the higher frequencies only, if that makes sense,

Details :

Creative SB X-fi 5.1 surround sound THX
Win xp media center edition
Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI 11 26xx
Creative media center

Im sure its the settings iv messed up, does anyone know how i should set it up?

When you have too many things like that, I think Windows Is lost just like us many times. Have you tried the Sound Icon in System Tray for Playback? Double click it

Sorry i don't have that icon on my system tray,
I use this for adjusting my sounds.

I have set it and fiddled with it for ages but still i get the same result with the volume.

As you say I think Windows files and your software as mangled up when it's loaded. Have you checked Control Panel? Have a poke around the sound icons in there. You may find something that is the Problem. Also it may be worth a look in Device Manager to make sure the drivers have loaded correctly

Drivers are all up and running well and device manager shows no problems,

Also nothing is amiss in the control panel, im sure its one little setting im missing.

Most likely to be the sound card frequencies configuration, although Windows Media Player also has a graphic equaliser.

  Stuartli 19:58 17 Oct 2007

Or perhaps you have bass and treble controls for the speakers?

  wolfie3000 20:00 17 Oct 2007

"Most likely to be the sound card frequencies configuration"

Ok maybe but how do i fiddle with them?

The graphic equalizer on MWP is set just how i like it.

The same with the treble and bass settings on the speakers themselves.

  Stuartli 23:06 17 Oct 2007

As you have treble and bass settings on the speakers and these are the actual source of the sound that you hear, any graphic equaliser(s) settings should be left flat; use the speakers' treble and bass controls to tailor the final sound output.

  wolfie3000 23:08 17 Oct 2007

Ok i understand that but how does that help with the volume issue?
