Hi folks,I used to have a volume control in my task bar and it's gone. When I go to control pannel/sounds and audio devices to put a tick in "place volume icon in task bar" it says windows can't display the volume in the task bar because it has not been installed,to install it go to add\remove programs. Can someone tell me how to do this please?I tried add\remove windows components but can't see it there either.Thanks.

System Restore ?
or click here or

Go to start/run, and type:

%windir%/system32

This will open the folder you can MOVE sndvol32.exe into.

Or just right click sndvol32.exe and run. This may take a reboot to have effect.

Sorry you have already tried my solution and it did not work.

My first response would be to re-install the sound card drivers

Cheers HC

As said by Buteman and Hiwatt, its not working how it should do,i have feeling the sndvol32.exe that is needed maybe missing or corrupt.

Hiwatt
if the folder is missing from the system32 folder try sfc.

start / run and type

sfc /scannow

and enter.

You may need your xp disc if windows is not preinstalled.

I don't seem to have that file.I've looked for it and also done an advanced search for it.It's not there?

Try right clicking taskbar.properties.Customize.Current items. And if your sound icon is on there Click on it to highlight it And on the dropdown bar on the right hand side make sure always show is picked.Ok Apply.Ok

Hiwatt

The system 32 folder should be in albetical order.

Are you seeing many folders and dll's ?

Does
%windir%/system32
from a run command actually work for you ?

Hi folks.I've tried right clicking the task bar\properties,there's no sign of the volume icon.Skidzy, yes it's opening the system 32 folder from the command prompt it's just that there is no sign of that file.Windows is saying it's not installed and to install it via add\remove programs.I've not got an xp disc so can't do sfc/scan now.I've not got a clue how this happened?
