voices quiet on DVD playback

I recently deleted Sonic Cineplayer from my computer not realising I was also deleting the decoder used by Windows Media Player. I duly downloaded the Sonic codec again (recommended by WMP) and now I can play DVDs again. However the sound is unbalanced: voices are very quiet and music/sound effects are much too loud. Can anyone help?

I would try this codec pack

or if you fancy trying another player try vlc
