VOB to AVI,MPEG etc?

hi world,

I have just got myself a Samsung Dvd camcorder, and have been out and about to capture a few scenes. The disks have been finalised and play well on my Pc and standalone dvd player.(though not with Windows Media player).

I tried to edit the video using Windows Movie Maker, but it cannot read the VOB files-Ulead videostudio 9 (which came bundled up with the camcoder just freezes without importing the files for editing,no matter what I try or how many times I repeat procedure).

Could someone tell me a way around this-basically how to convert VOb to Avi or simliar files for editing with WMM-a WORKING free software will do for now-all those I have 'googled' for and tried have been rubbish-never achieving what they claim to do!

p/s-I also have Nero 6 reloaded-Pc is P4,3.40ghz,1.00gb of ram,etc

A VOB (Video OBject) contains several streams multiplexed together: Video, Audio and Subtitles. Video is MPEG-2, audio can be AC-3, Linear PCM, Mpeg 2 multichannel or MPEG1 layer2 2 channel audio. You may find a solution here click here
