Vm modem problem

Hi, i am having problems with my cable modem, apparently the upstream voltage is too high thus making online gaming very frustrating because it is causing lag, i called virgin media and they sent an engineer who checked everything and said that yes it was way too high (+18.5dbv) and so he all he did was too put an attenuator inline, which has'nt made alot of difference.
Is there anything i can do myself, also after doing investigating i think that the frequency needs changing, is there anyway i can do that also, ta.

Virginmedia's Cable Modems are not "user configurable". Any adjustment needs to be carried out by their engineers.
