Vista wont see Printer

  Kilty 13:37 25 Mar 2009

I have installed the drivers plugged in the printer, turned it on and nothing. It does not even recognise when I insert the USB. The printer works fine on an XP machine, but Vista just does not see it. The printer is a HP Photosmart C2600 series and Vista is 32 bit. USB port works fine with other gadgets.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Your printer is not listed on the official HP site as having any Vista compatible drivers.

You could try the Windows 2000 ones, but uninstall the old software first.:

Found them...Halfway down the page, choose your exact model and download....Same applies about uninstalling the old ones first.

Sorry, I should have said I have already installed new drivers. But when I plug in printer, it doesnt even say not recognised.

Thanks for help any any more given.

If you are sure you have the Vista drivers downloaded...

1) Uninstall all software related to the printer.

2) Shut down

3) (most important) DISCONNECT the printer from the PC

4) reboot

Install the Vista drivers from the link I provided above.

5) Connect the printer when prompted to do so.

Is there a drop down list when installing software to indicate how printer connects to pc. Sometimes with older software, the default is COM1, the old parallel port ( I think) . If so, this needs to be changed to USB.

It's USB the installation will take care of it :))

Thanks for all the help, went away and started again from scratch and finally got the thing to work. Dont know what I did wrong, but Im sure it was something obvious.

Thanks again for all replies and help given.

He's done it and all OK. No point in doing it all over again.
