I have just loaded Vista on to an 80G compaq laptop, an upgrade from XP and with no files on the PC whatsoever its used 18GB of space. I have looked through the files and deleted the windows 'old' etc and used space is still 18G.

HOw much does Vista use? any idea where all my space has gone?

Thanks all,

Paul

is 8.5Gb, something's not right. Did you buy theis laptop with Windows XP preinstalled? If you did, the Windows files might all have been in a seprate parition on the drive, and that partition might still be there.

Microsoft state that you will require 15GB of free space for Vista click here

This will be a maximum and similar to the Forum Editor my Ultimate installation is just below 10GB

Long gone are the days of Machine Code. Vista would have taken up about one gig in the computers own language, and work faster.

Paul

plus if you upgraded, you will still have all the compaq bloatware on your hard drive.
