Vista Start Up Problem

When I turned on Desktop PC this am the Start Up screen stopped after the lines
"Press F2 to run Setup"
"Press F11 for Boot Menu"
3264MBOK

Then after a few moments a new sreen appears saying
"Reboot & select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in Selected Boot device and Press key".

The last action I took before closing down last night was to download an update to Iola Systems Mechanic 9 so I suspect this may be the cause of problem.

Thought I might be able to roll back and do a Systems Restore by going into Safe Mode but the usual pressing of F8 on Start up doesn't have any effect.

Any ideas please on what I might try next?

Looks as if the machine cannot see the hard drive.

Switch off
Unplug
remove side cover and check power and data leads to hard drive and data lead at motherboard end aswell.

refit covers and reboot se if HDD is detected in BIOS.
