hello again
my step daugter has a pc and her my grandaughter has found out the main password to gain access to it.
they have found out she has been surfing all over the place when they are not around.
so they changed the password. totally changed it, not just changes a number or something.
but now they cannot remember what it is.
it has vista home basic installed when supplied by pc world, she says there is no os disc with there a way to reset or regain the password without losing all their data.
if anyone can help please do.
thank you in advance

Apparently the free demo of this click here will show you the password but wont allow you to reset it, you should be able to do that from within whatever Vista uses in place of XP's user accounts (I don't use Vista).

You could try
Shutdown the computer
restart the computer tapping on F8 continuously to get to safemode
Select Safemode
Press Enter
The Windows welcome page will open, select the Administrator account.
Press Enter leaving the password blank.
If Vista starts
Open user Accounts
Click on Start
Click on Control Panel
Click on User Accounts
Click on Your account
Press Remove Password
Press Apply
Press OK

Vista has a password reset facility see click here
