Im running norton and it has sent a virus alert
W32.Pnfi virus detected in a data file unable to delete this file access denied

When I tried to delete the file manually I got the same response also saying file being used by another person or program

How can I get rid of it

Try this link to Symantec for w32.kwbot :

If you use the Symantec search facility you will find any known virus however the W32.Pnfi may have been mis-spelt because I can`t find it !

It's W32.Pinf

W32.pinf is a very old virus - your security might be very out of date.

im running norton2003 pro fully updated from the net
Norton detects 3 viruses all w32.pinf but doesnt remove them

Have you followed the Symantec advice to remove the registry change?

Have you tried to delete the files in Safe Mode.

Check in the file Properties whether they are Read Only and/or System and /or Hidden files. You can try changing the properties then dleting them.

If all else fails you could boot up in DOS and get to them to delete them that way, though it's a bit messy to get to them sometimes.

Do you know how they came to get into your system - did Norton fail to stop them getting in?

You may need to disable System Restore click here
