Yes ME does have a type of system restore click here
switch off run the scan again and then switch restore back on.

just to ask; do you have both the Norton and the AVG antivirus programs installed on the pc as this will cause a conflict;if you do, you need to uninstall one of them :)

Problem - the prog suggested will only run on 2000 or higher

I'll try and get rid of Norton and see where that brings me.

Thanks for your help!

You need to disable system restore via the control panel. Then run avg in safe mode, it should then clear the little beasties. Once done re-boot in normal and turn on system restore.

No av prog will get rid of viruses in the sys restore whilst it is active.

If you uninstall Norton using Windows uninstaller, you will probably still have bits of it left in yr registry. If necessary you may need to download Symantec's own uninstall tool specific to yr version and Windws ME to completely clear it out.

Thanks everyone - virus has left the building!
