Virus or something else PC just stops working

Hi everyone, this has me beat so any ideas please.
Desktop PC 2.8 dual pro, 1gig mem, 320C drive, 160E drive.
It just slows down until eventually stops working at all'
AVAST shows a trojan TR/ATRAPS.Gen and TR/Unpacked.Gen as does AVIRA which I also ran.
Avast stopped at 44% and Avira at 34%.
Ran overnight.
IF i use XXCLONE to try to back up then the end time just keeps increasing, started at 30mins and got to 36hrs before I gave up.
Acronis stops on "preparing" and won`t go any further.
Also tried PARAGON and that won`t work either.
I am at a loss here as to the cause (HDD failing?)
I even had to use another PC to post this as I only get a time out message on the other one.
Any help welcome.

There is no point in trying to do a backup at this stage - that would only backup the virus as well!

If you can, run click here and any other anti-type programs you have, to try and get rid of the nasty first.

Eeverything points to failing drive (but check connectors and cables too) - run manufacturer's diagnostics.

MAT ALAN, spyhunter seems to be scanning the c and e drives ok I will post the results thanks.

Hi brundle, I have a nasty gut feeling that this is the case, what makes you think this also?

Hi MAT ALAN,
found a few cookies which I have removed but nothing nasty but when I try to reply to here from the PC in question I only get a TIME OUT message, I am having to use another PC to access this site.
Half an hour ago I could dowmload and run the software.
A cold reboot and I now have a connection but for how long? It is not the connection dropping as this old thing works fine on the same line.

I welcome any new ideas from anyone.

Could still be failing drive - or even dying PSU.

Hi, thanks everyone, still trying to sort this but little time today. I need to narrow things down!
hardware/software/virus.
Any suggestions please.
