Is this a virus

  Hetti 13:30 12 Feb 2011

PC has icon on desktop AVG 2011, I cannot uninstall it as it is not listed in Control panal>add/remove programes.
I have not run the software as Im afraid it is a virus.
My grandson my have unwittingly installed this.
I have installed Kaskersky since this happened and it does not mention AVG 2011 after scanning.

When I go to AVG 2011> properties >general tab, it says "Dr Web for windows 2001"

Try your Add remove and see if it is on there and delete it if it is.AVG or Dr Web.Or both.

  Hetti 16:12 12 Feb 2011

No neither of them are listed there.

The icon sitting on desktop looks legitimate, but as I said there is no mention of Grisoft in properties.

Forgot to ask if it was legit, surely it would be in Add/Remove programes?

If it's AVG antivirus 2011 , then it is a bug and can be removed click here

  Hetti 17:22 12 Feb 2011

That looks as if its for the Legitimate AVG software?, correct me if Im wrong.
This is a virus calling itself AVG 2011.

I copied the instructions and will carry them out,but it may be tomorrow afternoon before I can get to the PC in question.
Will post back then
