i was on a website called and after a while a windows baloon popped up and said YOU ARE LOW ON VIRTUAL MEMORY WINDOWS CAN CHANGE THE PAGE FILING SYSTEM.(sorry i know i spelt it wrong).
what does this mean?
the website in question is very heavy on graphics.

virtual memory also known as a swap or page file
is space resrved on your hard drive for applications that are too intensive for ram alone it allows the system to swap into the hard drive for extra memory

generally a page /swap file should be 1 and a half times the ram in your system and ste initail and maximum to the same

to change page file in xp

right click my computer /propeties/advanced tab/performance /settings/advance tab /page file

Do you have more than one hard drive?

  Devil Fish 22:45 27 Apr 2006

sorry spelling is terrible will adjust match sticks in eyes

resrved = reserved
ste = set
initail = initial

I asked about asecond hard drive because you can minimise the page file to about 2 fixed size on the C drive and have a much larger page file on another drive

being curious like i am i tried the site ( i am running xp pro sp2 512mb ram.
maybe your specs are not up to it but it does not seem an excessively heavy site.

xp on 256meg of ram that'll be the problem

the best solution i can offer is as above set your minimum and max page file the same as previous post

at least that way windows wont adjust it and slow your system down

  johnnyrocker 00:07 28 Apr 2006

i did have a feeling it might be a ram issue but hey ho we all learn.

  denis93c 17:09 28 Apr 2006

so how many mb should i change it to?

  User-312386 17:14 28 Apr 2006
