Video Editor for restoring old tv show MPG format

Can anyone recommend an easy to use video editor which can handle vob or mpg files.

I have transferred a lot of old videos onto DVDR in vob format but some are very blurry/shaky and I would like to improve them if possible and reburn to disc. Also audio seems to be a second or two out on some episodes.

I have copied an episode to my hard drive ready to edit it. Found out that renaming the .vob extension to .mpg allowed the content to run in Windows Media Player. But now I don't know how to proceed further with my grand plan.
