video display problems

My dell PC has suddenly developed video display problems namely vertical and horizontal purple stripes across the PC's screen. I've changed the monitor for another old one and I have exactly the same problem which suggests it's not the monitor. I suspect the video card is playing up. I've opened the PC and checked the card is seated OK but no joy. Any other ideas?

Removing the graphics card and replacing it did the trick!! Thanks. Why it should suddenly play up after a couple of years use I've no idea? Never even had this box open 'til now. Anyway, consider yourself bought a beer, or any tipple of your fancy. :-)

Just in case anyone else has this same problem I'll finish the story by saying that after much playing about I had to replace the video card. Ho hum! It cost me 60 quid but problem solved now. Cheers for your help. :-)
