Video card identification for tv connection

How do I figure out if my video card supports TV output? My understanding is that most new laptops will support this, but a vga to s-cable connection just gives me running lines on the television.

What make & Model of laptop is it?

Compaq Presario CQ60-420US

That laptop does not have S.Video connector, so to connect to TV you need one of these ...

I know. I have one. And the result is the B/W lines that I describe above.

PS - I am afraid I have not been able to find out for sure, if your VGA supports TV Out, although being new I would expect it to.

Hmm, so it seems that TV Out is not supported then!

So let me ask this (sorry for the questions. I really appreciate all the help). I have a second computer with an s-video output that works fine with the tv. However, when I connect via the vga to s-vid converter, it won't work. If a machine has an s-video out, then the vga output should also work with the tv, right? My point here is that maybe the vga to s conversion doesn't work on the television side?

  Technotiger 16:34 20 Aug 2009

Not necessarily, as it already has a dedicated S-Video out!

Right on. So I'll need a converter of some sort, yes? Many, many thanks.

  Technotiger 17:21 20 Aug 2009

But if you are still talking about your laptop, then I doubt whether any converter of any sort would work, as it would appear that the laptops VGA does not support TV out.

Though as you mentioned earlier, you just might have a dodgy converter.
