Whenever I click a video file to watch in my browser with Windows Media Player, a download box pops up as well and the file starts to download - which I don't need. Is there any way to turn off this automatic downloading?
is it not downloading the various codecs you need to run the video?
At first, I wasn't sure what you meant, but after doing some Googling I think that what I'm describing above is in fact just a normal procedure. Is this correct?
The file can download (as a saved file) or it can play (streamed to) within the browser.Depends which website.
... so I gather, but if I don't actively download it, presumably the relevant codecs will still need to be downloaded - if they're not present already.
I've now just done a repair install of XP and the problem's gone away - might be interesting to know why though.
