Vanishing pointer

My mouse pointer keeps disappearing from the screen and I had to restart to get it back. I have now discovered that is actually goes off the left side of the screen and I can get it back - but it appears to go a long way off the left side.

I now also have a problem with MS Media player which also goes off to the left of the screen and cannot be seen.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you done a virus scan?

Is your desktop too wide for the monitor size?

Can you adjust it using the front panel controls??

First thing I did. I also have an auto update on Norton AV.

I've tried your suggestion which hadn't occured to me. However, the front controls only move the whole picture around on the screen.

Something that has occured to me is that, if I right click on the desktop and go to 'properties', I get a picture of two screens.

The card is Nvidia Gforce4 MX440.

Does this help at all?

I could be your system is set to multi-monitor.

Are you running XP?

I other words, your curser is disappearing into the next (non-existent) monitor.

Yes - XP Pro.

If it is set to multi monitor have you any idea how to unset it?

No luck there but thanks anyway.

i would update to the latest drivers for the graphics card click here

set your monitor to a sensible resolution like 800x600 if 15" monitor or 1024x768 if 17" or over.

control panel/display/settings

install the latest direct x click here
