Validation Rule in Access 2003

  jg1990 20:00 26 Feb 2005

Evening everyone.

I'm currently doing my first piece of GCSE coursework on Access databases.

One of the fields in one of my tables is for customers postcodes. So, I would like to set up a validation rule only allowing the postcode to be six characters long.

Does anyone know the formula for this?

Many Thanks, James

Could you not use a input mask. In the table design select text as the data type for your postcode then down the bottom where the two tabs are on general there is one listed as input mask click on this then on the dots next to it you can then select post code from this. This will limit it to having an entry in the style of
PL11 2HB

Dont use validation unless you know how the true validation works. Most postcodes are AD12 1AB, however AB1 1AB, is a valid postcode. Therefore you can not use an input mask for it.

Use an input mask of:

>LL09\ 0LL;0;_

Allows for 6 or 7 length post code.
