i recently got my laptop like 2 weeks ago and had to suddenly reformat it nd in tht time i didnt get a chance to create recovery dics..is there neway i can download a recovery disc or sutmhing?

This is why the very first thing you do is create the recovery disks.

There is almost no chance now.

What happens if you press F8 while booting?

Sony Vaio recovery (Normaly)
When the VAIO logo appears on the computer's screen, briefly press the F10 key on the computer keyboard.

The VAIO Recovery Wizard appears.

whats done is done,As already advised try recovary from the boot up screen.unless you formated the whole drive.
have you tried sony to see if you can purchase recovary discs they will no doubt charge

If no luck you could try a forum search there has been some programs that may recover your data ( even after a format0 Such as Easus

I would presume you have the offer to change the O/S when win 7 is out

may be cheaper to buy a windows cd than buy a recovery disc of sony.

Ive always found that the purchase of recovary disc once you have passed the checks is far cheaper than purchase of a new O/S plus you also get all the programs that were originally supplied with that system

You can use TestDisk to unformat the drive as all the files will still be on it click here
