A friend of mine for no reason that I can think of decided to remove SP2 (He is Running XP proffesional)from his PC. He has now found his machine will not boot fully it tells him he has lost the file SHLWAPI.dll from the dynamic link library. He has tried using the XP disk to do a repair but it keeps asking him for his password as an admin user which he has never set. Does any one know how to get over this problem all ideas gratfully accepted.

Has he just hit enter for the password.

Like Spikeychris says, just hit enter. Works for me.

SHLWAPI.dll used as part of explorer.

can he get in safe mode to the start menu?

Type

sfc /scannow

in the run box XP will scan and replace missing / corrupt system files. He may need the XP disk in the drive if not preinstalled.

or download from click here

This is all I could find, it might be of some use - don't know if you can do it in safe mode or not.
