Using “Outlook” Abroad

  Dirty Dick 09:34 16 Jul 2008

I have recently returned from Spain, where the local library has a free Wi Fi internet connection. When I used my laptop I could not get Outlook (2007) to connect to my ISP server to retrieve my e-mails.

However I could connect via a web browser (IE 7) and pick up my e-mails from the main server.

When I was in Australia lasy year I had no problems connection via Wi Fi connections.

Can anyone throw any light as to why I could not connect via Outlook

I am running Vista and Outlook 2007.

well I'm strictly an amateur in these matters but if I were abroad - anywhere - or even somewhere in GB that was not my home, I would EXPECT to have to pick up my emails by webmail (ie IE, instead of Outlook/Express). And I do that, quite often.
The question therefore seems to me to be NOT Why could I not connect to my ISP in Spain, but Why COULD I connect in Australia.
But the experts around here will probably give you a better answer.

Maybe the port was blocked in the library in Spain. Cant see any issue in downloading your mail over any other issues of using a public network
