Using old laptop hard drive as an external drive?

Hi I wonder if someone could advise me, or point me in the right direction for advice, on how to do this?

My old HP Pavilion ZE4200 bit the dust after 4 years [it was the DC connector] and I needed to upgrade anyway. I kept the old hard drive because someone told me that if I put it in an external case with a USB connector I would be able use it as a spare HDD and also retrieve any files I had not already backed up.

I've looked around and it seems that this might be possible; but there seem to be a bewildering array of kits with lots of acronyms that I don't recognise!

How do I work out what I need to buy?! I am quite happy to read through stuff to learn, but don't know where to look to get going.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.

Best wishes

Very good selection here, very easy to connect old hd. I have just done the same thing for the first time with an old pc hd.

PS - scroll down to the Hot-Drive and to those below it too.
