You will find that wifi is ready available at all hotel, airports, in most cities nationwide

I have never needed to connect via a LAN cable during my many trips to the US

pretty much all the leads/connections in the USA are the same as uk
except for the power!

wifi is very prevelant in the usa
cheaper motels like holiday inn express/marriot courtyard etc
offer free wifi
and ironically the more expensive the hotel
the more likely there will be a charge
usually $9.99 a day inc long distance phone calls within usa
most hotels offering wired access provide ethernet cables in room etc

many outlets like panera etc offer free wifi
a quick scan with Wireless Zero Configuration/netstumbler
usually reveals a plethora available connections
so be careful what you connect to

as a regular traveller
i wish i could pay a (reasonable) "roaming fee" to an isp
encompassing access worldwide inc my UK usage
or at least use my "reward points" from airlines/hotels to pay for it

Just a small follow up on wifi use in US

Not surprisingly, the US is leading in terms of hotspot use, making up 56 percent of the worldwide total
