USING A DEVICE THAT ONLY HAS A SERIAL CONNECTION?

I had an old laptop with win98 that had a serial port and I could connect a device that also had a serial port. I am getting a new laptop but it has no serial port(I never checked beforehand) only usb!!

Is there any device that I can link a usb port to a serial port ensuring that the serial will act as a serial. I only need 4 pins of the serial working. I read of usb to serial adaptors but it is not clear that they will act as a dedictaed serial does.

Hope this is not confusing but defenitely need a workround.

Hopefully the above link will work, if not this is the company which supplies the product.

You will need a standard USB patch cable to go with it.
