USB2 hub fails

  xquest 23:44 18 May 2003

I have a fairly new laptop with 4xUSB2 ports. I have added two more USB (1.1) ports via the PC card slot. Everything works fine.

However when I plug a new Belkin USB2 port into one of the laptop's USB2 ports only my external hard disk and floppy drive work.

The Hp 840C inkjet only prints part of a (colour) page - but black ink printing is OK. The wire-less mouse/external keyboard won't work, the Mocrotek scanner is 'not found', and the broadband connection won't log on.

I've tried another Belkin USB2 hub with similar results. Both hubs are mains-powered.

I have 9 USB devices altogether so I have to plug the floppy drive, camera card reader, videocam and 35 mm scanner in when required required into the 6th. port.

Any ideas anyone why I can't use USB2 hubs on my laptop ?

Yes, woodchip, they are both mains-powered hubs.

If you plug a usb 1 device into a usb 2 hub using a usb 1 cable that is fine.
If you plug a usb 1 device into a usb 2 hub
using a usb 2 cable, does that work ??????
