USB version 2

  recap 13:04 06 Apr 2003

I understand that the new version 2 USB is much faster than version 1.

What is required to use version 2 if anything?

  Djohn 13:31 06 Apr 2003

Which O/S are you using.

All you need is a motherboard with USB2 or a USB2 PCI card or hub and USB2 drivers. That and a USB2 compatible device and your ready to go!

Spare PCI slot .

Win XP/2000/Me/98SE.

New Card should have a driver CD , install card , bootup and run the CD setup , reboot and check Win System/Device Manager to confirm the drivers have installed .

Cards should then be able to take either USB1 or 2 peripherals (backward compatible) , albiet USB1`s will not run any faster .

Note - check any new peripherals are actually USB2 , see this thread that Djohn pointed out to me click here

Always check the Requirements Label before parting with your money !

Incidentally , have seen a new PCI card with 2x USB and 2x FireWire with an onboard socket to supply front bay USB attachment.

Sorry for the late reply had to go out.

Thanks for your replies everybody. The operating systems will be 98, Me, XP (both pro & home) and W2K.

Win 2k and 98 will work with USB2, but only through a dedicated PCI card.

XP Home/Pro will work from a USB2 M/Board, but only with service pack 1 installed. Not sure on win ME. J.

Your welcome, but the knowledge is not mine, it is part of a question I e-mailed to flecc, and his reply to same. J.
