USB Thumb Drives

I have two 256MB thumb drives that I have been using for over 18 months with my XP Pro system. Today, when I tried to access each through the normal USB slots, neither one appeared in My Computer, even though the computer responded with its usual audible signal. I rebooted into Safe Mode and each device was visible. After booting normally, I checked that device manager registered the drives and both were confirmed as being there, but still no sgin of them in My Computer. I am not able to access them through any programmes either. Any ideas?

Look for the drives in Disk Management (right-click My Computer and choose Manage). The drives may be taking the same letter as another drive and so would need to be allocated another letter.
