USB Problem

  boxertetley 11:51 06 Mar 2008

I have two USB outlets at the front of the PC. Try to plug in either, phone, camera or ipod or stick and it does not reconise it. Place a USB stick in it lights up (must be power). Please help.

Have you installed the required software fro these devices?

If so and it still fails to work, try this.

1) Open control panel>device manager

2) scroll down the list until you see your USB ports

3) right click on them

4) choose uninstall

5) Re-boot (Windows should re-install the drivers)

Make sure you have no USB devices connected when you do this.

Thank you for the advice. Followed your instructions, new drivers were loaded. Did not cure ! No external item can be read even though there is power from the USB. They will not even read a stick. I have used all the with another computer and ok. Confused.

Then it seems likely that the headers (pinout connections) from the motherboard to the ports are not correctly connected.

How do I know where to look and solve >

Is your machine under warranty? If so, return for repair. If not (and you have the manual) You will need to refer to the diagram regarding usb header connections, open the case and check (could be a faulty cable, or incorrect connection)
