usb memory sticks dont work on laptop

I just reloaded my windows from scratch and it wont recognise usb mem sticks.

Check in device manager if you have any red or yellow exclamation marks against the USB drivers.

i done that, no luck, it say root usb hubs, I deleted them according to hp and they reinstalled, but ext usb mem sticks still don't work.

I now have a yellow ?, but if I delete and reboot laptop it is still yellow.
the universal serial bus controllers are all there also.

Which version of Windows are you using?
Win 98SE does not automatically recognise a USB memory stick until the relevant driver is installed.
Just a thought!

No, there are no unpluged wires in laptop, its def software.

Have you reinstalled the laptop drivers (from your manufacturer HP,COMPAQ etc) as sometimes the chipsets will not work fully on windows generic drivers used on windows xp install
