USB Memory Stick Installation Issues

  ianpirrie 22:11 22 Nov 2009

I run Windows XP. My computer has a number of USB slots - four (?) on the back and two on the front. I have tried installing a USB memory stick in one of the front plugs. The computer recognises the new hardware, and the installation wizard fires up but continually flashes so that you cannot complete the installation process. I tried using a USB hub but that had exactly the same result. Is it a power issue? The hub I bought (an Advent) clearly has a plug for a power lead but does not come with the lead. Very helpful!
The USB memory stick works with another computer.

Could be lack of power at the front slots. Try powering the hub, or try it in one of the rear slots.
